Set at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains on a peninsula that extends into the Pacific Ocean, Mazatlan is a beautiful city rich in history and culture. It also has all the discos, restaurants, shopping, tours and beaches any vacationer could ask for. But only a block off the major strip is where real Mazatlan is. It has markets, great taco stands, beautiful ancient chapels and churches and a friendly, welcoming local atmosphere at the old city center plaza. At the harbor, buy some fresh shrimp. For a deal, the local restaurants will cook it up. Or try a day trip to Rock Island and finish off the day riding horse down the beach. The variety of attractions and activities is vast in this up and coming Mexican resort destination. The beaches are clean and well-manicured. The hotel service is impeccable. This is a great destination for young and old alike with the no-rush attitude and enticing sunshine.
