The cities of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, nestled in between the Sierra Madres and the Pacific Ocean, offer up an interesting duality for visitors. While both offer the standards of a Mexican vacation, Ixtapa does so with luxury and ‘Zihau’ (as the locals call it) does so with rustic beach-town flair. Zihuatanejo has all the laid back café’s, beaches and bars while Ixtapa is the town known for remarkable amenities. Ixtapa has a large residential area set quite a way off of the bay so that the beaches are uncluttered and welcoming with the soft white sand.
