Sun Country Airlines Moves Forward
St. Paul, MN April 11, 2008
Sun Country Airlines discussed a plan yesterday that outlined the future for the airline and the steps it is taking to be successful in the current airline fuel and economic situation. “We are small, we are nimble; we have the ability to change the focus of our business depending on what the demands are. Lots of bigger airlines don't have that luxury,” says Tom Petters, Owner and Chairman of The Board. “I am firmly committed to this airline and believe we are making smart and strategic decisions to move us forward,” he added.
Airline expert Terry Trippler commends the airline for their ingenuity. “I believe for the first time in a long, long time this airline's being run like an airline should. I have high hopes for it. It's up to the people of Minneapolis/St. Paul to decide if this airline succeeds."
One month ago, Stan Gadek, CEO, came to Sun Country from AirTran. The quality of Sun Country’s reputation, discipline and professionalism are what he believes will help them sustain through these high fuel prices. “Other airlines are hoping the fuel prices will come down. Hope is not a strategy. We are taking an aggressive look at the future with high prices and planning accordingly,” Gadek said.
Continued Gadek, “We have recast Sun Country by focusing on our core strengths including increased emphasis on leisure markets and identifying new channels of revenue such as flying military charters. We are taking these steps so that we can continue to provide the high level of service that Sun Country is known for. Additionally, we are taking these steps without cutting the perks like free cheeseburgers that are valued by our passengers and have made us the preferred airline in the Twin Cities marketplace.”
Sun Country flies daily routes to over 30 destinations in the US, Mexico and Caribbean. The new fleet of Boeing 737-800's is considered one of the youngest, most fuel-efficient fleets in the industry.
