Baggage Fees

Pre-Purchase

Pre-purchase a baggage option and save, as baggage fees paid at the airport will be higher. Baggage fees remain the same, no matter if purchased at the time of booking, online after booking via My Trips, or during online check-in.

Exclusive benefits and pricing are available for Sun Country Airlines® Visa Signature® Cardholders, as well as Rewards members who have purchased a flight and hotel package.

At the Airport

If a baggage option was not pre-purchased, carry-on and checked bag fees can be paid at the airport. Baggage fees are higher at the airport. We recommend pre-purchasing baggage for the greatest savings.

Carry-On Baggage Policy

All carry-on bags must:

  • Not exceed 24 inches long x 16 inches wide x 11 inches tall (including wheels, handles, etc.)
  • Not exceed 35 pounds in weight
  • Fit within the sizer box at the gate

Personal items (e.g., purse, laptop, etc.) must:

  • Not exceed 17 inches long x 13 inches wide x 9 inches tall
  • Be able to be stowed under the seat in front of the passenger

Good To Know

  • Carry-on bags are only allowed for passengers who have selected the carry-on bag option.
  • If a passenger pre-purchased the carry-on bag option and their carry-on bag does not fit within the sizer box at the gate, their bag will be checked at no additional charge.
  • Overhead storage onboard each aircraft is limited. Once the aircraft bins have reached capacity, remaining qualified carry-on sized bags will be tagged and travel as checked baggage. All checked bags can be retrieved at the designated Baggage Claim Area.

U.S. DOT EMERGENCY ORDER BANS SAMSUNG NOTE 7 DEVICES

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued an emergency order that bans all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices from commercial air transport. Per DOT instruction, if passengers attempt to travel by air with their Samsung Galaxy Note7 devices (whether on their person, in a carry-on bag, in a checked bag or shipped as cargo), they will be denied boarding. The U.S. DOT has provided additional information about the ban on their website.

Checked Baggage

All checked bags must not exceed:

  • 62 linear inches (length + width + height) and
  • 50 pounds.

Additional bags, as well as bags over 62 linear inches or 50 pounds, are subject to excess baggage fees for each additional piece of excess or oversized baggage.

Checking Luggage at Ticket Counter

Good To Know

  • As part of baggage check-in procedures, which vary by airport, all baggage is subject to search by airport security agents.
  • The passenger's name must be clearly and legibly marked on all baggage.
  • Baggage may not be checked to a destination that is not listed on the passenger's itinerary.
  • Baggage determined by Sun Country agents to be unsuitable for transportation may not be checked.
  • Styrofoam coolers are not accepted as checked or carry-on baggage.
  • On international flights, all baggage must pass customs inspection, as required by U.S. and international laws.
  • Printing and toner cartridges weighing more than 16 ounces are prohibited in checked and carry-on luggage.
  • Bottles of alcohol or wine must be checked as baggage in leak-proof, cushioned packaging. Exception: If the alcohol was purchased at a duty-free shop in the airport, it can be carried onboard as the passenger’s personal item in a secure, tamper-evident bag, and must fit under the seat in front of the passenger.
  • Passengers traveling with special items such as strollers, mobility and medical equipment, sporting equipment, etc., should view our special items policies.

3-1-1 Policy:

Passengers can transport liquids, gels, lotions, or similar items through the security checkpoint if each item is less than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and all items fit into a transparent one quart (one liter) plastic bag. The contents must fit completely in the plastic bag and will be subjected to x-ray inspection separate from the passenger’s carry-on bag.

Passengers may also have the following items in their carry-on baggage, but must declare them to TSA at the screening checkpoint.

  • Baby formula/milk (including breast milk), juice, and baby food in containers if a baby or small child is traveling.
  • Medications in the form of liquid, gel, or aerosol.
  • Liquids (including juice) or gels for diabetic or medical needs.

Enhanced Security Measures For Powder-Like Substances

Effective June 30, 2018, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements take effect for International flights to the United States where customers are encouraged to place powder-like substances more than 12 oz./350 ml. in their checked baggage. Please note that 12 oz./350 ml. is approximately the size of a standard U.S. can of soda. Powders in carry-on bags may require secondary screening, and if the powder cannot be cleared by security officials, it will be prohibited from the cabin of the aircraft. Note: Certain powders will be exempt from secondary screening, including baby formula or medically necessary powders.
