Baggage Fees

Baggage Fee Changes: Baggage fees have changed for trips booked or changed on or after December 21, 2016

Save time with the convenience of paying for your checked baggage online prior to traveling.  

Each checked bag is not to exceed 62 linear inches (length plus width plus height) or 50 pounds. Additional bags, as well as bags over 62 linear inches or 50 pounds, are subject to excess baggage fees of $75 for each additional piece of excess baggage.

Seat Fees

Seat assignments for seats behind the exit row are available at no charge, subject to availability. Seat assignments for exit row seats and in front of the exit row are available for a fee, per flight segment. If there are no seats available behind the exit row, and you opt not to purchase a preferred seat, seats will be assigned at the airport prior to departure at no charge. Seat selection fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Exit Row $25 seat fee

Exit row seats can be purchased for $25 per seat, per segment when selecting a seat during the booking process, by visiting “My Trips” on, or through Reservations. Customers with Exit row seating must check-in at the airport at the First Class ticket counter. Please note: Persons sitting in exit row seats must comply with FAA regulations.

Preferred Seats $15 seat fee 

Preferred seats are located in the front of the coach class cabin. Preferred seats can be purchased for $15 per seat, per segment when selecting a seat during the booking or check-in process, by visiting “My Trips” on, or through Reservations.

Unaccompanied Minor Service Fees

Sun Country charges a mandatory Unaccompanied Minor fee of $75 per family, per flight segment (this fee is in addition to the ticket price). This fee is payable through our Reservations Department or at the airport at time of check-in.

Traveling with Pets

Pets as Carry-On or Checked Luggage

An advance conditional reservation is recommended per segment due to the limitation above, through Sun Country Reservations for a non-refundable fee of $125.

Walk-up requests may be accommodated for a non-refundable fee of $199, if within the limit of four pets per aircraft. View traveling with pets policy.

First Class Upgrades

Upgrading to First Class 25 Hours or More Prior to Departure

For travelers who have already purchased a Coach Class ticket, they can upgrade to a First Class ticket by calling Reservations. The cost to upgrade will be the difference between the originally purchased Coach Class ticket and the cost of the First Class ticket, plus any applicable change fees.

Upgrading 1 to 24 Hours Prior to Departure

If there are First Class seats available, a purchased Coach Class ticket can be upgraded 1 to 24 hours prior to departure as follows (prices vary by destination):

For Flights within the U.S.
Travelers can upgrade:*

  • During the online check-in process
  • At the ticket counter
  • By calling Reservations

*Please note: For flights within the U.S., any pre-paid baggage or preferred seat fees will be deducted from the total cost of the upgrade when checking in online or by calling Reservations. The pre-paid baggage or preferred seat fee credit does not apply when upgrading to First Class at the airport.

For Flights to/from Mexico, Costa Rica & the Caribbean
A purchased Coach Class ticket can be upgraded at the ticket counter upon check-in.

In-Flight – (Buy Onboard)

Sun Country offers a variety of food, drinks and in-flight entertainment options which can be purchased using a debit or credit card. Please note, cash is not accepted. 

  • Food and Snack service is available for purchase from $2.00 to $10.00*
  • Beverages service is available for purchase from $2.00 to $7.00*

Other Onboard Items 

  • Sun Country Digital Entertainment Device**
    $12.00 for International and Alaska flights to and from Minneapolis/St. Paul and $8.00 for all other flight segments
  • Headsets – $1.00
  • Pillow/Blanket Travel Pack – $5.00

**Sun Country Digital Entertainment Device are available on select flights with flight times three hours or longer 
*All in-flight items are subject to availability and price changes. 

Payment, Cancel & Change Policies 

Reservations are nonrefundable but are changeable, less applicable per person change fees (unless Travel Protection Plan is purchased; coverage varies). No credits or price adjustments are made if the price changes after the reservation has been purchased. Review complete details.
